Intro to K9 Nose Work - Seminar 1 - 09/06/25

A 3 hour seminar to get your dog started in scent work

This course aims to introduce the concept of the scent work game, enhance the handler's observation skills and timing, and foster the dog's confidence and focus. In K9 Nose Work classes, the dogs initially search for their food or toy to develop their independent searching ability and refine the handler's skills. This approach ensures that when odour is introduced, the dog's motivation to engage in the game is strong, and the handler and dog work together as an effective team.

The first part of the seminar primarily serves as an evaluation session and provides an overview of the game. The rest of the time we focus on establishing foundational skills for the handler to better understand the dog and increasing the dog's enthusiasm for searching. This searching behaviour can easily transfer to other sports such as barn hunt, ratting, lost item detection and shed antler hunting.

This is a 3 hour seminar as the first half of the introductory classes. It includes the online version of the class that you can access anytime to refresh your memory on what was taught.
